Kindergarten learned about chlorophyll and chromatography today in this multi-step STEM Experiment.

First we watched a video about pigments in leaves, then we went outside to collect three different colored leaves.

We sorted them into 3 jars and baked them in alcohol for 1 hr. We dipped coffee filters in each and when dry, observed the changes through a magnifying glass.

Each leaf did have a hidden pigment! We had so much fun being scientists today!

Kindergarten began a week long experiment of turning an egg into rubber.

We learned the science behind the process of what happens when you submerge an eggshell in vinegar.

Next week, the shell should have dissolved, leaving behind a rubbery inside that you can actually bounce! We wait with excitement!

+++

Congratulation to seventh graders Alex, Andrew, Brandon and Richie who represented St. Anne School at the De Paul Catholic High School Science Challenge.

The competitors had to construct a water bottle car with air propulsion and the car that traveled the furthest won.  Our team beat out the competition with a 220 cm run!  They took First Place!
